Description
Sandro De Angelis was born and raised in Niagara Falls and was a natural athlete, excelling in every sport. He spent his entire childhood at Cardinal Newman Elementary School before going to St. Joseph's Collegiate High School in Buffalo, New York, to pursue his dreams of getting a football scholarship in the United States. He broke numerous school records as he played multiple positions. He was named to the 1st team All New York State and was the Buffalo and Western New York Player of the Year. Sandro captained the 1998 St. Joseph's team that ranked #1 in Western NY, and were the Monsignor Martin Champions.
Sandro followed his high school career with a full scholarship to the perennial football powerhouse University of Nebraska Cornhuskers. Sandro was not only successful on the field, but he was a four time Big 12 Commissioner's Spring & Fall Academic Honour Roll and First Team Academic Big 12 member.
In 2005, Sandro began his professional kicking career when he signed with the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League. He was named a CFLAll Star (2005, 2006, 2008), a CFL West All Star (2005 to 2009), won the John Agro Special Teams Award (2006), and was selected the Most Valuable Canadian during the 96th Grey Cup game as a member of the Stampeders Championship team.
Although football has taken Sandro across North America, he continues to say "You can take the boy out of Niagara Falls, but you can never take Niagara Falls out of the boy!"
