Description
Mike MacGillivray was born and raised in Niagara Falls and moved with his parents to Ottawa, and then to London, Ontario. Mike enjoyed a distinguished "All-Star" minor hockey career in London that led to a training camp offer with the London Nationals, now the Knights, junior team of the Ontario Hockey League (O.H.L.). Mike declined this enticing opportunity to begin his officiating career in hockey.
A short-term apprenticeship with the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (O.M.H.A.), led to Mike's recruitment with the Ontario Hockey Association (O.H.A.). During his 25 years of refereeing, Mike upgraded his skills to become a Certified Level 5 Hockey Official. This designation allowed him to become a referee/linesman in all leagues, and all levels of the O.H.A.
Returning to Niagara Falls in 1972, Mike continued his work as a referee with the O.H.A. until the early 1990's. Mike served two years as a Referee-In-Chief for the Niagara Falls Minor Hockey Association and completed a five-year team as Supervisor of Officials for the O.H.A, in the Niagara Region.
Mike treasured the many friendships that were acquired through hockey, enjoyed trips to countless cities for his hockey assignments, and was a proud ambassador for the City of Niagara Falls.
