Each year, in the Junior ‘C’ Division of the Ontario Hockey Association, more than 50 teams compete for the Provincial Championship trophy, making it one of the most difficult championships to win in Canadian Junior Hockey. The Chippawa Junior ‘C’ RiverHawks have competed in the Niagara East Division of the O.H.A. since 1986. In the 2000-2001 season, the RiverHawks won the All-Ontario Junior ‘C Championship, defeating the Belle River team for the treasured Schmalz Cup. Their performance that year included an amazing regular season record of 31 wins, zero regulation time losses, four tied games and one overtime loss. The RiverHawks Team has always been a top competitor in the league, winning several league championships and advancing to numerous out-of-district playoffs. The RiverHawks are a proud team with an honorable reputation throughout the province. They give many young, local players the opportunity to play an exciting caliber of Junior Hockey with the focus on winning another Ontario Junior ‘C’ Hockey Championship for our City. The RiverHawks continue to compete in the Niagara District East Division of the Ontario Hockey Association and have recently moved from the Chippawa Willoughby Arena to the new Gale Centre in Niagara Falls. - Subject
