Description
In his amateur career Mike has competed at the local, Provincial, National and International level, accumulating an outstanding overall record of 63 wins in 75 bouts. Michael has been Ontario Champion 6 times, won the Canadian Championship in 1988 and 1989, in the 106 division and has been a member of the Canadian Boxing team. Michael has competed in many international tournaments which has taken him to places such as finland, Thailand, Italy and Africa. January 2013, Update: With well over 360 bouts in his Amateur Boxing Career, Mike has been an eleven time member of the Canadian National Team, three time Olympian (Barcelona 1992, Atlanta 1996, Sydney 2000), and a two time Commonwealth Games Gold Medalist (Victoria 1994 and Malaysia 1998). Mike was the Flag Bearer for the 1998 Commonwealth Games and awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012. Mike continues with his sport as he mentors the "up and coming" boxers and athletes. Mike is also very involved with charities, establishing "Heater’s Heroes", focusing on raising funds for children in need. In 2012, Mike ran across Canada, naming this the "BoxRun", and raised more than $100,000 for Childhood Cancer Research.
