Bill Sootheran was one of the prime builders in sports in Niagara Falls during the 1930-1950 era. He managed to do this while achieving outstanding business success as a newspaper advertising executive and making significant contributions to the political and community service spheres of Greater Niagara. Bill joined "The Evening Review", as it was then known, in 1929 and for the next twenty odd years played a major role in the sports community. He served the Greater Niagara Baseball Association for some twenty years, fourteen of them as secretary, and is presently a life member. It was during his tenure that the solid foundation was laid for a highly successful organization. He also contributed greatly, in his capacity as manager, to the success of Brights, Houcks, and Fords senior baseball teams. Two of these teams went on to win Ontario championships. In addition, this personable gentleman was active in the executive and managerial aspects of other sports, notably basketball, football and badminton. Bill was one of the true giants of sports in Niagara Falls during this era. |
