Hockey in Niagara Falls had a great friend in Russell (Russ) Masterson. Russell owned the Niagara Falls Tier II Flyers for four years during a time when Major A Hockey didn't exist here. Russell abandoned that level when Major A Hockey returned, but kept his involvement by taking over the Junior B franchise.
Russell lost money annually, but continued to operate year after year. He also coached Minor Hockey and played with the Orillia Terriers, Hamilton Tigers, and St. Catharines Athletics prior to his ownership of the city teams.
Russell owned the Junior 'B's from 1974 until his death in 1982.
