Fred Young was not only a pillar of amateur baseball, but a great sportsman and fine gentleman.
Fred served as the president of the Ontario Baseball Association (OBA) from 1950-1952. He was among the OBA's inner sanctum for over 15 years and was also one of the sport's greatest supporters and fans.
Fred was also a power behind the Greater Niagara Baseball Association in its formative years. He played a key role organizing in the yearly GNBA banquets, at which some of the top major league stars of the era were guest speakers, and the banquet room at the Brock was filled to overflowing.
Bill Snyder, Peck Ward, Mike Barto, and Fred Young formed the core of dedicated baseball men who put Niagara District on such a high OBA plane in the 1930's and 1940's.
