Doug is well known in the sporting community as a coach and educator. He arrived in Niagara Falls in 1958 as a physical and health education teacher at Stamford Collegiate. During his tenure at S.C.V.I. he coached numerous football teams to zone championships. He has coached three Southern Ontario Secondary School Association (S.O.S.S.A.) wrestling championships and an individual all Ontario champion.

During his time at Niagara Falls Collegiate, he coached seven senior football teams to zone championships including an impressive six consecutive years.

Doug’s contribution to physical and health education was recognized at the Provincial Level when he was awarded the Ontario Physical and Health Educator’s Association Bill Patterson Award.

Perhaps his philosophy is best summed up in “winning and losing is never the bottom line, there is more to sport than that.”

Presented January 1990.
