Bill was born in Port Moody, British Columbia in 1922, but moved with his family to the Fonthill area in 1924. Love for the game of golf began when Bill began caddying at Lookout Point Golf Club in Fonthill. Bill won the Lookout Point Golf Championship in 1940 at the age of 18. Bill turned professional in 1949 and won the Buffalo Open in 1955. Bill became the first Canadian in history to capture the Western New York PGA title in 1956; he repeated as champion in 1958 and again in 1970.

Bill moved to Niagara Falls in 1968 and in the early 1970's joined the Senior PGA circuit winning the Western NY Seniors PGA title in 1973,1976,1979 and 1981. Bill captured the Canadian PGA Seniors Championship in 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, and 1978. During his outstanding golf career, Bill was a member of the Ontario team 6 times and set course records at 7 different golf courses.
