Barry Finlay moved to Niagara Falls from Ancaster at age 11 and made his mark in City sports.
He was quarterback and captain of A.N. Myer's junior and senior football teams. A multi-talented athlete, Barry was awarded the George Hillesheim Award in 1969 honouring the best high school basketball player in the City.
Barry went on to McMaster University in Hamilton where he was captain and defensive back before becoming the first-string quarterback of the football team in his final two seasons.
In 1973, he was a first-round pick of the Toronto Argonauts and the second overall pick in the Canadian Football League draft. He started for four years as defensive back and in 1976 was named Argo defensive co-captain.
He would later play with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats before retiring in 1979 to pursue a teaching career.
In 1977 McMaster University named Barry Finlay Quarterback of the Decade.
