Boone - Dionnes Squirt Soccer Team Ontario Champions 1981

1981 was the first year of travel for these eight year olds. They were selected by coach Jack Durante and assistant coach Jim Borland from eight house league teams to form the travelling team to represent the City of Niagara Falls throughout Ontario.
The team did not know exactly what to expect from teams outside their area, but learned very quickly how excellent their play was. Knowing how good other teams were, and through hard work and dedication, their level of play increased dramatically and they were soon defeating every team throughout Ontario.
To become Ontario champions, they had to defeat the top elite teams. They defeated Guildwood 5-1, Oakville 4-1, Burlington 2-0, Woburn 4-0, Wexford 4-0 and Chingaucosy 1-0 in the finals.
As of 1990 many of these players are still actively playing soccer in Niagara Falls and are now paying back what they received by coaching younger boys.
